I can't find Ariya's original 2004 announcement, I think the original link was. One of those was Ariya Hidayat's "SpeedCrunch", which has been actively maintained up to the present day. His blog post elicited several rapid responses from developers taking his PyQt-based mockup and turning it into a 'real' application (, ). Back then developers were often just unthinkingly cloning 'skeuomorphic' interfaces like Apple used back then, designing user interfaces that resembled physical objects instead of taking advantage of the opportunities afforded by computers.

The display options are selectable via the mouse and is a fast way to switch between different options.Fun fact about SpeedCrunch history, the software descends from an off-hand blog post by Roberto Alsina, a KDE developer, complaining about KCalc usability. It does everything as the gcalctool but has a paper mode which actually is not really that interesting but a nice addition. Galculator is basically the same as the Gcalctool but with a different ui which reminds me of a calculator. There are enough features to cover basic and some advanced requirements. The Calculator will display your current entered calculation but as soon you ask for the result the calculation is gone and you will be presented with the result. It has all the normal Buttons has different modes Basic, Advanced, Financial, Scientific and Programming. This calculator is what you would expect from a standard os calculator. The calculator is great, works well and has a clear ui.

The Calculator is multilingual and has shortcuts and a full screen mode. The calculator will display the history above the Buttons including the calculation and the result. The calculator has good hidden features like a simple drop down help and syntax highlighting. The calculator has a function list, constants, variables, history, etc.

The calculator is on gcode and you will have to download the source code and cmake, make it and then launch it. SpeedCrunch is qt based calculator for linux, osx and windows. This Calculator is the winner as it is the best calculator with the most and best features. With qalculate you can enter: 20kg + 10 pound and you will get your result 24.5kg. If you want to add 20kg and 10 pounds the normal procedure would be that you would search for a conversion tool then you would convert one of the values and etc. On further exploring the features of the calculator surprised me even more as it opens a drop down while you enter your function with suggestions and it will show you what and where you have to enter between brackets. The calculator appears to be a one liner but it actually is more, the calculator will automatically help you to calculate by displaying the result, the whole function and if you want to continue to calculate it will allow you to and it will keep your function and even add brackets. If you want a calculator that has lots of features and that will help you to solve functions and other mathematical problems without having to search for functions and other things then I recommend this calculator. This program has the most features it has a ready big functions list with additional windows, units, variables and many more features. There is a secondary screen on the left that will display mid-steps.

The calculator works fast and exact but it is a one liner and it only displays digits, plus minus and e. The ui is old but it works, the buttons are clickable and they respond. The program has a settings window hidden behind the ! button and an about window under the ? button. The program is bit old but it does work and it can calculate. Wcalc works but I would not recomend it as it is not really for linux but osx. I would expect to enter wcalc sq(50)*p*500 and it would show me the result. The calculator is not really good as it is not really useful because if you want a command line calculator you would expect to have letters for pi, square root and so on. The calculator works and you can enter wcalc 20+20 in terminal and it will spit out 40 but you can run it. It has a gui for osx but from what I see on linux it has no gui. The first one is called Wcalc the calculator is a command line one for linux. Most calculators were available through yaourt. I picked out six and each one of them have some good and some bad things. There are some old some new some heavy some lightweight.

After searching for calculators for linux I found out that there are not that many.
